My !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! shipped from B&H Photo’s warehouse in Maspeth, NY this past Wednesday 8/30 via UPS Ground, with a scheduled delivery date of Tuesday 9/5. Waiting 6 days for a package is infuriating when I’m so used to speedy Amazon Prime shipping (now with Sunday delivery to help keep USPS in business).
According to the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , a package shipped from Maspeth, NY should arrive here in Wisconsin 3 business days.
Oh, and even though Saturday delivery is an option with UPS, it doesn’t count as a business day. By this definition of business days, a package shipped on a Wednesday would arrive the following Monday, but since this Monday is Labor Day, I have to wait until Tuesday to get my mitts on my new toy.
All of this is understandable, if annoying. But I made the mistake of checking the tracking this morning, and discovered...
That’s right, the package arrived at my local UPS distribution center this morning, even with a late trailer arrival in Hodgkins, IL yesterday. But of course, you can’t just go to a UPS warehouse and pick up a package before UPS has attempted to deliver it, and even if you could, the distribution center customer counter is closed on Saturdays.
Yes I know, Amazon spends massive amounts of money above and beyond what they earn in Prime membership fees to expedite shipping, and they have their special deal with the US Postal Service for Sunday deliveries, and Chewy.com where I buy my mass quantities of pet supplies for my 3 cats giving free 1-2 day FedEx shipping with any order of $49 or more is an exception to the shipping norm, but dammit, I’m so used to the quick turnaround times that when a package comes regular old UPS Ground it bothers me to no end.
I could easily avoid all this nonsense if I paid the extra 8 bucks or whatever for faster shipping at a store like B&H that has UPS Ground as their default free shipping option, but the whole reason I bought the phone there in the first place was because they had the best price, so I don’t want to spend anything extra just for the pleasure of getting it in my hands sooner.
Yes, I am spoiled rotten.

Now imagine you live near Amazon HQ, and literally everything you could ever want, from car parts, to workout gear, to that new chair you’ve been eyeing for your patio, will arrive within two hours at no extra cost. Or for a small fee, just one hour. Or say you’re too lazy to go grocery shopping, so you order on Amazon and drive to an Amazon Grocery Center where the bags are loaded into your car. Too lazy for that? You can get it delivered within half an hour, garunteed.
Ordered a bottle of wine as a gift from some online wine curator and waited three weeks for it to arrive from California, with no tracking and no text updates. Yep, Amazon has spoiled us

When did they start offering full Amazon Prime benefits in Canada?
Last I heard, only the free shipping benefit was available in Canada, but now it appears everything is offered. I must be living under a rock.

You can only get Saturday delivery on NDA shipments. Or at least the ups software I have at work only shows that option when you select NDA. They might do it for 2day select but I’ve never had anyone request that.

B&H annoys me, generally. But the shipping thing? Yes, Amazon spoilage, but then they charge more for everything than you can find other places ofttimes, so...
Roll with it.

I’m so used to Amazon packages showing up on Saturdays (and now Sundays) that I assumed UPS has a Saturday delivery option across the board. USPS does the Amazon Sunday deliveries but I honestly haven’t thought to look and see who brings the Saturday ones.

Like many others, I buy stuff from Amazon because of convenience. I do price check other places, but Amazon still gets a lot of my business. Since Amazon charges sales tax on orders delivered to Wisconsin now, usually the stuff I don’t buy on Amazon is bigger ticket items. Or if some other store has a screaming deal on something, like this phone was $350 from B&H vs. $420 from a questionable 3rd party Amazon seller. So the fancier more expensive stuff that I’m extra antsy to get because it’s something cool, is the stuff that I’m more likely not getting thru Amazon’s oh-so-convenient shipping. But if I need more kitty litter? It’s at my door right away haha.

I actually thought about that after I posted it. I feel like most of my Saturday ones are USPS but it’s possible amazon has a special arraignment with ups since their account is so large.

Same, pretty much.
